These geese, with their almost military precision, look as though they are in command of the river bank. But when the swan swam past and poked at them with its beak, they withdrew very quickly. There is no doubt who is king of the river!
This picture shows how high the river is. The geese are standing in water on the pavement. But the river is normally three or four inches below the pavement edge, and you can see the line of the edge at the left of the picture.
